The concept of `concurrences' is used broadly to connote the attempt to contest prevailing understandings from the past as much as the present. Stories seen as `concurrent' (or overlapping) navigate between fact and fiction whilst also inhabiting diverse demands on how society, cultural practices, identities, and the history of interactions are apprehended. Casting doubt on ubiquitous Western representations of colonial relationships of domination, multiple sources of evidence are utilized, ranging from heritage objects to oral histories, contributing to the hearing of the voices of minority or subaltern individuals. Honoring multivocality and plurality of time, the approach captures all voices in a given moment, asserts its relational and generative quality, and foregrounds the asymmetrical nature of power arrangements. Rooted as an interdisciplinary initiative, these essays emerged both as outcomes of intellectual inquiry from scholars versed in myriad departments across the humanities as well as social sciences interested in the complex history within which postcolonial situations are located and play out globally.
